The Allegory of the Cave
The quote by Homer that Socrates told Glaucon "Better to be the poor servant of a poor master, and to endure anything, rather than think as they do and live after their manner" seems to mean that the unique hardships that people face only make them stronger. Everyone endures struggles throughout their life. Living in a false reality where you see other people's lives and want to strive for what they have, almost imulating them, is not what Socrates is recommending. I agree with the quote as it is better to be in the darkness and make your own path in your own life rather than follow in someone else's that might not be to your advantage.
